well since there isn't really a reliable source for contract information on MLB players. And the ones I did find (cotts contracts site) was showing very short contract lengths. SO to balance the FA pool and make my life easier - I decided to base it off Projected performance and typical contracts for the positions.
This work for FA balance and for player/talent/organizations payroll effectively. Because likely Yankees still have a substantial payroll difference than the Marlins even on my "psuedo" contract system.
THis will be phased out over time and the whole thing will be based solely on your work as a GM! So hope you don't find it too inconvient - but this was the best system for a new league I felt for economics, FA, and my time (800 players contracts by hand would have been even worse!).
YOu can refer to the THREADS in the PROBOARDS: FullContracts / Salary cap Taper Master ROster Files
For salary info...if not listed on the FULL CONTRACT file..then I will use the following system 1.5mil for 2-5 yrs based on RANDOM.ORG.
I used Random.org to determine contract years for every player! ENJOY! Other questions are encouraged.

Also, This league is way ahead of my schedule release of 2011...so I am sorta starting it this year...2010. Not all the rules have been transferred but for most of you in my NBA league you know how shit runs...you know what salary cap is..you understand salaries and my randomization process.. YOu understand the contraction draft is for Players/Contracts listed in the FULL CONTRACTS file... I will suggest you READ ALL THE RULES before ever asking a question ..and I'm a believer that it is a dumb question if it's covered in the writing Hope you understand but all other questions are definitely encouraged!

.....I would love you to be in my league... I love smack talk and rivalries....I love opinions. Just know...I am egotistical I imagine people would view me as that. Being a commissioner of the best NBA and MLB leagues imaginable, it comes with the territory! HAH just kidding. I'm as nice/fair/fun as you can ask for in a LM. I take my fairness as almost as far as saying I would make a great Judge someday. Too bad I'm going to be a Med Doc. To start with, You will need to register here mockmlb.proboards.com then post claiming your team (mets) in the Trade Block Section. In the same Thread on the Msg Boards, post your 30man roster from the ENTIRE (TEAMS) SYSTEM (major/minor). Once you finalize that you can trade. Since ESPN Limits leagues to 20 teams... We will be drafting other, non selected MLB teams players in a "contraction" draft - as well as players left off the 30man rosters for selected teams. 25 rounds of snake randomized. Our rosters are 40man start (ESPN Limits) - but the teams must always have 50-60 players (maintained on proboards...espn is just a scoring tool guys it isnt the leagues CENTER FOR BUSINESS, PROBOARDS IS). You will select your 30man by checking out the FULL CONTRACTS / SALARY CAP TAPER thread at the top of the message boards. There is were all players contracts are listed (as fair as I could make it whilst having a life...pay for talent/performance). Dont worry about Salary's too much just pick your players/salaries/years on contract accordingly as a normal smart GM would. I've allotted enough money for teams to have the full roster with average league salary and the full Draft Picks (rookies) ever year. Currently the league is at ~480mil cap, which equals about 9 or 10(i forget) mil per year per player. We will aim for a 5mil/yr/player by 2016...so the salary cap will be trended accordingly year by year to 325mil. If a player isn't listed on the FULL CONTRACTS EXCEL SPREADSHEET , I.E. Minor leaguer/prospect..you get them at 1.5mil per year for 2-5 yrs. Years are determined by Random.org Thanks, I'll look forward to having you in the league for years and years to come! I won't let you down!

Finalized 30man rosters and then 50-60man rosters AFTER THE CONTRACTION DRAFT... will always be maintained on the MASTER ROSTER FILE.
This is a zip file...google how to use a zip file.. windows or mac. Simple then open the files with in MASTER ROSTER FILE with Internet Browser.
-----------
So overall, Teams will have a budget, winning earns money or budget for your team....you can buy contracts out with that money. No players are "DROP"able. You either Release (pay full contracts via cap hit or Buyout with your budget money, and take a designated cap hit...explained in the cap hit rules.
YOu will have a Salary cap of ~$480MIL to start and it will taper until 2016 to $325mil. This is cuz contracts in the real MLB aren't fair and I wanted the league to start out fair and teams selected dont have unfair advantage. Pay for the talent. Plenty of cap space so don't worry about it.
YOu have 50-60man roster limits. Only 40 are on ESPN for scoring...so your minor leaguers or players you just don't have starting on the ESPN league will not be on your ESPN rosters. But don't worry Master roster file has it all.
-----
Contraction Draft is for players NOT already taken by other teams (ie unclaimed teams players or players not claimed by claimed teams). The players will have contracts listed inthe FULL CONTRACTS FILE. That means you can't go over cap to select your players. Select wisely.

Free Agent Bidding takes place constantly via Message boards. A player is nominated and is on bid for a week...highest bidder wins (ie most overall money).
There is no other way to get players other than through Rookie draft.
Sure there will be FA during the season but more than 95% of them will be obtained via (FA) in the winter.
Thats the basics to our league...read the rules and you should be good to go!

have questions about how to read the master roster files for all teams? well look no further- this is how it is done gentlemen. 1. If you don't have a zip file reader thing use this: sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/files/7-Zip/4.65/7z465.exe/download save it. 2. click on the master file zip link and SAVE it when it opens up. 3. go to your documents or wherever the master file was saved to. 4. RIGHT CLICK on the mast file and you should be able to now choose an option that says "extract all." 5. zip file wizard or something will pop up and you just click next a few times for it to save the files..then the master file will open and you can click on the masterfile.htm icon and it will open in your web browswer. 6. links to each team's roster is on the bottom. enjoy.
